Little Sunshine Does A Blogger Good

About a week ago the lovely Debbie of Thrifty Girl Vintage awarded me with the Sunshine Award. I have seen many types of these awards, yet never knew much about them, (the why's, the how's, and when it would even be given to anyone). This was such a shock and also very exciting for me, as I was very happy and incredibly grateful that I received this small token of blog love! There are also 9 other great bloggers who received the nod of sunshine as well via Debbie so check them out here!
Abiding by the rules of this award I will:
1. Nominate 10 bloggers,(many of the bloggers I wanted to nominate already had this or another similar award so I chose a few others +/-.
2. Thank the person who gave me this award, linking it back to them in your post,
3. Tell you some things about myself, and last but not least...
4. Contact the bloggers and let them know they have received this award.
About me...
1. Although, fashion has always been an innate direction for me I'm actually a classically trained violinist; at one point I had serious thoughts of putting fashion as secondary priority in order to play for a travelling symphony/orchestra. *(I know it's the nerd in me, but I've always loved the strings).
2. I eat almonds daily...
3. I have an obsession with lace.
4. I love reading novels & have many favourite authors, yet for some reason I've read all the works of Henrich Von Kleist, Kahlil Gibran, C.S. Lewis, and loads of John Buchan countless times still finding something new.
5. I really love to laugh! I appreciate good humour, sometimes when I have a bad day, I turn on a comedy to help get into a better mood.
6. I've bungee jumped & sky-dived more than once! But, it's certainly safe to say that I would NEVER do it again... my daredevil days are over!
7. Though technology is amazing, my family and I make it a point to send each other a handwritten letter once in a cobalt moon, since we are vastly spread out in different places...
The bloggers that I've chosen may be known a seasoned few or possibly new to you, but they give me pieces of inspiration, or make me smile when I make time to visit. (in no particular order)

1.Kileen of Cute & Little: her blog is just that - cute little inspirational outfits & she's so sweet & responsive to her audience.
2.Anika, byAnika: If you don't know her by now & in the blogosphere just stroll over... you will understand!
3.Zarna of Zarna's Runway: She's a beauty with style and grace.
4.Nefferth of Mode-Plus: She has great style & perspective on fashion!
5.Jamillah of Made-to-travel: She lights up the page with her positive posts & like me shares a love of independent talent, ethical fashion and more!
6.Meanz of Koi Story: Shares her style of fashion, food, and other projects always with a bright smile.
7.Tabitha of Tabitha's Refugium: This gorgeous beauty blogger has so much inspiration to give!
8. Casee Marie of The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower: She's resilient not just in her style, but through her content, sharing her passions honestly and making you smile more each time you read a post.
9. Nesha of The Button Owl: Her fashion info & inspiration is beyond just simple influence, I can always count on being inspired in a mere visit.

Thank you again, Debbie!

Vanity + Vintage #07: Checks and Balances

What can I say, due to life this week the V+V series has been slightly delayed from minor turbulence (called work). Do not be alarmed instead just sit back and check out a few more vintage pieces that I've been waiting to style. From the good ole closet, to the jumble sales, and local flea markets... "Houston, I think we have something!"

This mini shirt reminds me of a bolero or dancer's shrug in a way. Regardless of the remembrance, I made this last year with those elements in mind. The vintage-inspired lace trim is something that I picked up a couple years ago and wished I had purchased more. There's something about the navy and cream colour that I adore!
The checkered wool vest was $4.75, I added a crest transfer on it, because I felt that it needed something special. The crest is only basted in case I want to wear the vest without it on some days. You know that I like having options!

Though spring lives in the labeled months it's been slightly breezy, sunny, chilly, warm, and windy in my recent places, so I've had to wear sandals one day or even a fall jacket the next. Don't laugh, yes I still wear tons of little plaid skirts. I do love them even though they're reminiscent of my schooldays. This particular one was actually around 8" longer, but I snipped it with my trusty shears to create what I deemed a wearable length in a modern way.
 Silk Scarf- $7

Although I have no desire to be a professor of any sort I do admire them, and if I was one this is probably a daily casual look that I'd wear, mainly because of the jacket/blazer. I love this velvet jacket, I picked it up for $14, and though it fits a bit roomy, the lustrous hand on this material will certainly bring you a brighter day.

I am on a mission to find some special gold-toned buttons that will lend themselves very useful in becoming the perfect addition to, yet another new jacket find that I acquired. Over the weekend I saw the most beautiful gold buttons with a horse impression right in the center of the button... however there were only 3 of them, I need 8-10! I'm hopeful that I will find some unique (gold-toned) buttons very soon!

The goods: Vintage: Checkered jumper, Velvet jacket, Paisley scarf, Plaid skirt (mid-calf skirt that I cut-remnants used as a scarf-charity shop, *see upcoming winter posts later). Other items: Heels-Seychelles, Stockings, TopShop , Long-sleeved lace mini Tee, Ladyofashion/Gestalt Collection, Tank/Blue tiered skirt-Express, Geo sandals-local boutique (Canada), messenger bag- Forever21.
