Modern Art Content: 100% Detail

Friday

I've always cherished backstage moments in fashion: whether it be of models in the making or event stage production. Other than talent scouting, a large portion of my career background has also been in event production and fashion direction, so when I see a great behind-the-scenes designer video I get incredibly excited.

This is predominantly because some of the most memorable moments that I have from doing fashion shows are from what went on in the background: the preparations, illustrations, playfulness and even post-show captures.

For me, a video (just as the one shown below) displaying the authenticity of an artist in their element gives a more relatable understanding of their design process instead of one that feels overly edited or perfectly scripted. Of course, there are times when video perfection is needed, but the occasional background footage is also a rather nice view.
Erdem Garments                                     Erdem Runway and Inspiration

  Fall RTW 2012

One my favourite collections were from Erdem Moralioğlu. Designer Moralioğlu seems to take new heights in his design abilities. The signature details are always present. The representational theme of art is finely tuned with imaginative brushstrokes: the marriage of romance and colour.

There's such a feeling of exploration that I get when I see an obvious Erdem garment, which is likely because of my adoration for lace and beautiful artwork found in the seams of clothingit's also the print-fresh design sensibility, i.e., a fully covered floral printed skirt or dress. The garments have intricate combinations and print juxtapositions of scale and diverse colour that have the ability to make one step outside of their routine style box. The lasting thought is the effect of an engaging fascination with content to be loved and worn.

Additionally, how could one not adore Swarovski touches in any garment? Take a look at this video, the making of Erdem's Autumn line.

  3. I absolutely agree with you.  I always love to see what's going on behind the scenes and what it took to create a vision, a garment, a collection.  And Erdem collections are particularly magical, aren't they? xoxo

  8. Wonderful post, my love! I always find that it's simpler to see the beauty in a collection once you have heard the designer discuss it in his or her own words - relaying how it came to fruition and such.  :)
