Sheer Sophisticate

30.11.12

Hello there lovelies! This month may have been packed with the work activities and art related events, but I also had two exciting birthday parties to attend. I finally had the chance to upload one of the other outfits that I wore to the second party.

There's nothing like bringing out a basic palette of black and white! I bought this roomy dress years ago and decided to wear it because of its versatility. I have actually worn it belted as well as with bold legwear in the past, which really gave the tent-like style a different look.

However, the key this time was simplicity with minimal jewellery, yet I also paired my lustrous boots to this look, which to an extent was somewhat of an added statement accessory on its own.

I often love to wear loose garments that give off just as much feminine appeal as a fitted frock; ultimately it's how you choose to style it. This was definitely an outfit that I felt comfortable and good in. Sheer, chiffon layers, and embroidered floral cutouts ... and entirely twirl worthy!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Patterns and Prints For Any Occasion

28.11.12

There are many holiday parties that I am usually excited to attend during this time of year. I always enjoy dressing up in gowns and themed outfits with close friends and co-workers. We usually have one huge themed party where guests are often dressed in twenties styles or forties inspired outfits.

But, for my first semi-holiday dinner of the season I decided to go for a low key ensemble. Well, at least low key in the sense of knowing how most people were going to be dressed there, which is generally a hybrid of after-work sparkling comfort and tis the season glam outfits.

Although, in the end it did seem that most of us were thinking along the same lines regarding attire that night. I took my work outfit, and added fur for the dinner. I was tired and had just got in after a long week conference so this outfit worked perfectly for a nice gathering with friends.

Since bold colour and layering suited my mood I tossed on this vintage silk scarf with a brooch for a touch of character! Mission: accomplished and the fun has only begun!

I hope you're having a wonderful week. Have you started attending any holiday gatherings yet?

TOTE-ally Amazing: Tommy Hilfiger

22.11.12

Most of us know of someone who has lost a loved one or a friend from cancer. I know that I have! Although it’s never easy when experiencing loss of any kind there’s a multitude of ways to help raise awareness. The month of October has came and left us, but that doesn’t mean that we have to stop thinking about breast cancer or even supporting charitable organisations trying to make a difference in that sector.

I was pleased to be asked to formally participate in the initiative that the Tommy Hilfiger brand is doing; raising awareness in support of breast cancer. You may have seen the campaign last month, which showcased the limited-edition leather handbag.

With the brand’s sixth consecutive year partnership with Breast Health International (BHI), this year the Tommy Hilfiger team collaborated with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Drew Barrymore, in support of the campaign. The campaign itself, photographed by Barrymore has already made an immense impact. The tote is inspired by the iconic colours and DNA of the Hilfiger brand, the design embraces a modern sophisticate with it's rose goldtone hardware, yet the bag also has a classic silhouette.

Making a difference in women’s lives across the world has the ability to change you as well as the person you’re helping, whether it’s passing on a hug, giving them a smile, or even a small donation.

Helping women and inspiring women is very important to me, and what a stylish way to do it with a classic bag supporting a great cause such as this. $100 of every limited-edition bag sale will go directly to the Fund for Living, which will assist women who have breast cancer as well as their families with financial aid or other related needs that aren’t necessarily taken care of by their health insurance programmes.

Expressive Eyewear

20.11.12

I am honoured to partner again with Firmoo, and participate in their first series of their Vogue Firmoo Themed Shows showcasing nerdy glasses style from bloggers all over the globe. In a world where sporting the good ol' spectacles used to be glared at to some as not being so cool, one thing is certain, that's no longer the case! Of course, with a vast range of styles being offered it's a lot easier to have fun trying on eyeglasses. If anything, I find more people rocking eyewear regularly and being proud to wear them!

Eye frames can entirely change a person's look. Since I have quite the collection of eyeglasses from bold colours to vintage style frames I decided to select a more polished, yet simple style this time. My first choice initially was (completely) clear frames, however when I saw the combination of black on the top of these I loved them moreit's a great everyday style, and they framed my face best for the aesthetic that I was seeking.

When you're an eyeglass wearer and a fashionista choosing what frames to don is just as important as selecting the right accessories. And let's face it, having options are always welcomed in my book!

I paired my frames with two items that I have been wanting to wear: these boots and my grey handbag that I can literally fit loads of items inside.

Firmoo is providing a special discount for everyone to receive 15% off of selected frames for new and regular customers! Or, you may also want to try their first pair for free promotion, which is open internationally for new customers!

A Textured Tweed Affair

17.11.12

My favourite textures involve classic patterns and timeless fabrics, chevrons, herringbone and many others.  So, of course I had to bring out my fitted tweed blazer. Tweed is perfect for the season and well-suited for a great work meeting.

I have several tweed pieces, but only one that is an all-time favourite. This time I paired my vintage blazer with charcoal trousers, which may be one of the final times in wearing due to the waist being quite big now. But, I adore the elongated illusion that wide-legged trousers gives you
—I also built up the courage to wear my layered woollen knit underneath.

As you know, after having years of allergies toward wool I figured out a way to wear this particular piece (which was tricky because of the layering seams), by adding a silk-sleeved tank inset. Fortunately it remedied the problem at hand, it worked exceptionally well, and resulted in me being able to enjoy my layered textures in style and peace.

I'm still enjoying good company of dear friends and family holiday, but will catch up on lurking on your spaces or Insta-snaps! Wishing you a wonderful weekend and joyous week to come!

Night Owls: Leather and Lace

14.11.12

I hope your week is going well! I must say, there are loads of items that I'm gazing at online at the moment, though most seem to be in patterns, olive green, or taupe hues. I have finally been able to wear my new gloves and scarves for a bit. But, I've also enjoyed remixing older pieces from my wardrobe due to having limited access (to my entire collection) at the moment.

It's always a nice feeling to wear an article of clothing that brings to mind special memories, whether it's the memory of when you acquired the garment or a significant period that was happening in your life. This jacket was exactly that! My co-worker somehow scored 2 tickets to a dinner theatre and could not attend, so she gave them to me instead! I decided on this outfit because I had been wanting to wear this vintage jacket again for some time, so I finally brought it out!

This outfit marries two things that I love, vintage and lace, both a little modern and dated!

Have you ever felt happy with your outfit no matter how simple it might bethe sun is gleaming down at you, and everything about your day seems to be going on your side. Yes, I believe I had one of those days!

As for the outing, our dinner was excellent, however the theatre was less than underwhelming. But, you know what, I really can't complain too much for a night out without us having to spend any money at all! This was a rare moment, so I took it all in and focused on the positive highlights of our night ... the laughter and great conversation, amongst many other things. And now, I have one more special memory to add about wearing this jacket.

Colour Blocking Autumn

12.11.12

How's your weekend? Have you done anything exciting or perhaps you are preparing ideas for seasonal decor? I've been getting inspired for autumn and winter in a multitude of ways, from cuisine to mantle pieces. You can see some images on my boards here.

Since I am on a short holiday enjoying friends and family I wanted to show you a colour blocked fall outfit. I wore this in route to an art showing, then to attend tapas night for a friend's birthday. Can one really go wrong with flavourful sangria and delicious tapas?

With autumn winds present and winter season looming it's quite easy to make my summer garments versatile; allowing them to transition into colder climates by adding just one or two elements. I settled on wearing my silver spike bracelet, floral tights, and polka dots that were colour blocked on my dress. Generally when I want to don a spring or summer outfit in opposite seasons I go for multiple layers with a Tee or boots, etc. This time all that was really needed was fun legwear!

I like this dress, however I've only worn it a few times because it takes a bit of work to get into due to narrow openings. And, as always bringing back older pieces from my wardrobe tend to give me a brief chuckle as I stumble across a few oddities here and there, analysing the fashion preferences of my past.

Initially, the dress also came with a patent belt—with the puffy cap sleeves it takes on a character of its own, but I like the dress more now. It's very feminine, and in an almost storybook type of way! I paired my knit hat and tweed jacket to not only stay warm, yet also make the entire look more of my (present) style, which has evolved quite a lot, even since I first acquired the dress!

Fashionably Favoured

8.11.12

Here at Fashion Tales the passion for emerging talent is unwavering, and it's no secret that I adore under the radar artists. But, more importantly a deep appreciation goes out to designers who stand by their innovations, and take risks. Even if not immediately understood by a mainstream audienceit's all the more reason to be on my exclusive fashionably favoured list.

Creations by Serbia based designer George Styler, and London duo Riyka are two designers that stand out amongst many of my favourites at the moment. In Styler's Captivity collection the infusion of versatility is embedded throughout his pieces with an emphasis on brilliant colour (of the parrot), freedom, and society as inspiration. On the contrary, Riyka has simple, yet powerful impressions with their clever use of graphics by way of fabric selection contrasts and colour in their designs.

The 32nd Belgrade Fashion Week (BFW) recently showcased promising talent amongst many seasoned artists; some of whom stepped out of the industry's trendier seams and into a more forward thinking, and avant-garde catwalking suit.

At BFW three-dimensional designs and patterned combinations seemingly were at the vanguard of eye-catching fashions, yet sleek and minimalistic creations also made their presence known.

One thing is certain, this year the world of fashion has progressively struck a chord. An artistically epic note for all to love, rewrite, and play by ear. Whether melodic in soothing painterly prints or held together by the drums and bass of intergalactic interpretationsin these creations the favouring soundtrack of fashion was united by its diversity. It was a, "something for everyone compilation" that was sure to have one track to relate to.

Take a gander at my top picks of a few noteworthy designers to be on the look out for!

Boško Jakovljević's menswear pieces married the styling of modern sportswear and classic patterns into the collection.

alt
Ivana Pilja and Peter Movrin took a playful approach toward illusion, print, and pattern. Pilja's strength was in transforming the entire body into printed art to be worn from head to toe. I was taken by the gloves as well! Her incredible eye for conceptual design is wonderfully executed. You may also catch a glimpse of Pilja's runway show seen here.

Slovenia based designer, Movrin showcased everything from geometric shapes in 3D form to animal inspired prints balanced with less ornate headdress pieces to complete his looks. I encourage you to view some of Movrin's other amazing works here

Calming Blues

5.11.12

Happy November! It's the beginning of another week, a new day, and new inspiration. Hopefully, your weekend had you fully rested and keeping warm if the climate blew bone-chilling breezes.

For me, it seems like October was all of two whole weeks in some ways creatively speaking. However, in the reality of pencilled in schedules and other life happenings, yes, I do recall feeling each moment. Some moments hurriedly passed through the hours of an entire day, and others tended to move at a snails pace.

I have been excited about November the past few weeks though, because I know that several planned affairs will be happening. The eagerness had also set in because I am heading off to visit family and friends soon, which may be slightly overdue since I missed a few people last time around. I can already smell the biscuits! But, enough about that!

Here's an outfit that I wore on an off-day. The day was filled with nothing except yoga, library research, Turkish cuisine, a few sketches in the handy notebook, and spending time out at cafés.

This skirt was a long maxi that I chopped off last year. The hem was too long, and since I loved the blue and grey colour combination I wanted to make a scarf out of the same fabric. It was casual, but everything in my outfit gave off a soothing colour palette and spirit of calm. You see, calm hues can be happy as well!

Fashion Casserole

1.11.12

I am old enough to not allow myself to get too dispirited when I am unable to purchase a certain piece of fashion or art. That's why there's the little thing called window shopping or virtual style gazing if you will.

Not in the slightest moment of weakness would I dare to punish my vogue desires. Sometimes virtual style gazing sessions may provide encouragement to take risks with one's own individual style—then giving you an inspirational booster shot to ease worthy fashion outbursts and gasps of excitement.

Have you ever seen an item so beautiful that it almost made you cry? I have! But, that's a whole other vintage diaries post that I will save for later.

Personally, I do occasionally prefer to virtually indulge a bit before committing fully to the "buy now" mode of possession. Certainly there are many fashion wants, wishes, and loves; and virtually taking it all in helps me to consolidate those tailored desires in one place. As time passes I may delete or add an item here and there.
_____________________

Afterward, I make a purchase and just like the perfect wine pairing with a meal the chosen selections make sense, complementing its surroundings. It becomes the fashion ingredient that my style deems necessary to thrive amongst those modern and dated recipes of my wardrobe. It's the fashion soup that my body never forgets to digest as it braces volatile climates, and inhales sumptuous threads of cashmere or remembers the luxe touch of silk draping effortlessly even as I sit in an uncomfortable chair.

Yes, it's okay to desire special items that enhance your style. It's okay to acquire pieces that you might even label as your splurge of the season! And, when you're uncertain whether or not to choose between the two, it's even better when you can appreciate an item's style potential.

You know, those items that you gaze at once, then twice, or even granting it a third stare as you're analysing the pros and cons, pondering, "do I need this? Can I make this or is it even worth the price on sale?" And the only words that you can really think of is ... "Get in my closet!"  Yes! Well, here are a few pieces on my list at the moment!

Globetrotting: This is my favourite type of luggage that I've always admired since I was little girl. It's what I've always imagined myself travelling in ... none other than the iconic  Globe-Trotter  Style. Their vanity and trolley cases are the best in my opinion! They have also designed an exclusive James Bond collection inspired by the new film SKYFALL seen here.

As a fashionista most people think that we simply obsess over everything! That may be so for some, but I just have several main obsessions: vintage, lace, travelling accessories, Dries Van Noten, Erdem, and Carven! There may be a couple more, however these are some that quickly come to mind. Of course, this Carven dress was a key desire to be added to my dream closet. I mean, it's only 1,120.39 USD!

As Mr. Fashion Tales slightly gave me the WTF! facial expression on a couple of these shoe styles above, I stand by them regardless! Cleverly crafted, marvellous, artful, and by all means exactly what the shoe doctor ordered!

This stunning leather accordion Marni creation has been on my radar. It definitely makes a wonderful gift, wouldn't you say?

Thanks to Curvatude for introducing me to Navoh handbags, which are more of a realistic price point for my lifestyle. Now, I just LOVE this style and the rust-orange colour is my favourite!

Lastly, these beautifully printed trousers really need to be in my life. There's definitely nothing shy about this pair and I even have the perfect accessories for them!
