There's nothing about the eighties that anyone have not (at least once) shied away from in some way, fashionably laughed at, or eventually donned for Halloween at some point. Whether it be the almost blinding hues in clothing, the teased hair, or taking it too far with the "smoky eye."
But one thing is certain, thankfully we've got to give it to technology, and fashion's ever evolving objective to turn some of the garish attributes of the eighties into modern styles of refinement. Today, and even within the past few seasons polished neon colours join the same closets of owners with fingerless lace and leather gloves, and super-sized layers of tulle skirts of candied pastel colours.
Here are a few elements of the eighties that have actually made a comeback, and some that are more of a stylish makeover for the better! From crop-tops to high-contrasts, there really seems to be something for the bold and daring, but also the more conservative fashionista.
Have you worn any modern-eighties elements recently?

love the post my dear! http://alovelystyle.blogspot.com.es/
ReplyDeleteThe 80's were hilarious!! I loved Duran Duran, haha. Still do. All the colours and anything goes style was actually quite fun. Untamed and crazy. I can see a lot of the elements creeping back in, the neon items, but it's a lot more refined and tamed this time around. It's like they know more of what they're doing with the idea than just letting it out without a direction. So cool. Have a great day doll xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful post my dear, love the inspiration behind it. Your picks are perfect, love the Burberry bomber and those mirrored sunglasses especially :)
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Daniella xox
I guess I wear eighties-y stuff all the time (and vintage 80's :D :D) Just love some of them :D.
ReplyDeleteEighties rock! Are the years of my childhood so I just adore them! The elements inspired by that time I wear are leggings, neon colors and floral items, but also I love the punk mood!:) Kisses Madison, have a good day! xo

I love the 80s! I was a little girl then but I can recall very well what my older cousins wore. I had hi-top reeboks in the late 80s and would still love to get them in yellow :) Lots of parties will still be 80s-themed. And it's been more than 20 years so it's so retro. Thanks for taking me back to 80s Madison x
ReplyDeleteAhh, the amazingly fun, crazy and so innocent 80's!
ReplyDeleteMy first computer, lots of new wave and alternative music concerts, lots of crazy hair styles and lots and lots of neons and lace.
An as you mentioned many of that is still around just re-adjust a bit.
Wow, its amazing how fashion ideas are recycled and reinvented into something totally new. I don't know much about 80's fashion but I can see myself getting into the 2000's version
ReplyDeleteI couldn´t agree more with you, and I love the 80s anyway.

I loved the 80's Madison! I was miss excess! HAHAHA Plus I was a Duranie. I'm wearing bits of neon, but mainly adding BRIGHT color to my wardrobe. This was a fabulous post.

Love this, especially since I'm an 80's child. I suppose I've worn colors and glasses and who knows what else inspired by then.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE the Ralph Lauren blazer!

Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you dear! :) That Burberry is definitely my favourite! x
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Lilli. I think I've just been into lace, always been when I was younger, and always will. xx :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love Duran Duran. Thanks so much, glad that you enjoyed it Kim. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the hi-top reeboks! Almost forgot about those! :) Thanks for reading dear. /Madison
ReplyDeleteI know, I was tempted to post a side ponytale video, haha. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny -- I'm so old I think of the Eighties as "after" my time. It's fun to borrow from earlier periods.
ReplyDeleteMost of my sales at the vintage fairs are of 1980s clothes, the hipsters love the loud bomber jackets, high waisted trousers, chain handle metallic bags and crazily printed blouses. It's not a look for me but I love it on others. x
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that bright colours have made an appearance again.

Totally agree with you babes, you just wanna laugh or embrace some 80's fashion. I quite love mixing the 80's with modern trends. they come out looking unique.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking this for a while!! I'm kind of excited about 90's style coming back. It's up next! xo.
ReplyDeleteExactly, History always repeats itself in some form. Enjoy the weekend Sam.
ReplyDelete:-) Oh 90s! Yes, I see loads of denim that have made quite a comeback.
ReplyDeleteI love a great high-waisted trouser! :) xx
ReplyDeleteI agree Sootjeelina. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteI've definitely done lace, brights, and florals all very recently! But so true I totally donned Madonna lace gloves when me and my friends dresses as Madonna thru the years for halloween one year, lol. Oh gotta love the 80's!
ReplyDeleteI "did" the 80s first time around, and what fun it was. I shunned most of the trendier stuff (for there were some very bad fashions that I hated) however, a lot of the avant-garde styles were my cup of tea. It's weird to see things come back around but they always do. About every 25-30 years, trends get recycled/reinterpreted.
ReplyDeleteHaha, exactly! I still wear my lace gloves. :) Enjoy the w/e Jamillah dear! xxoo
ReplyDelete:-) Absolutely agree! Thanks for your comment! History always repeats itself. xx
ReplyDeleteMadison this post is for me. I am an 80's child so i am really happy that fashion is going backwards!
