Highland Hiatus

Tuesday

I recently styled two tablescapes, including one with a touch of sweetness, and the other with more savoury delights to indulge in. Although, we held the Welsh Rarebit for a later tea party, believe me, this table had plenty to satisfy the palateAnd, since you know that I have a passion for all things stylish and decorated, I wanted to share this minimal, yet sophisticated tablescape with you.

In collaboration with Walkers of Scotland, here's one of the tables that I created, as apart of my respite from an extended vintage journey, and rather savvy curated auction finds to pick-up.

The crew and I decided on an intimate and light afternoon tea time together. So, I wanted the feeling of a cosy outdoor setting. I used a few family pieces of my own to add the finishing touches, whilst still keeping the concept simple, yet refined.

Instead of using a full tablecloth or table runner, I decided on folding my cloth and having it run down the middle of the frosted glass table. This entire setting is a fusion of contemporary and dated elements, as I am an aficionado of blended eras in styling.

Tip: If you don't want to go elaborate for your décor, then try to focus on one or two investment pieces for your table, such as your tableware, serving pieces, or even florals, then decorate around them. Sometimes simple elements can be of great impact.

The family-owned company makes a conscious effort in maintaining sustainability and their working relationships with local suppliers. They still create traditional favourites, like their renowned buttery shortbread, however, you might be surprised at their impressive range of other goods, including gluten-free and USDA Organic shortbread, as well as gourmet tarts, meringues, and cakes.
Naturally, the heavenly Ecclefechan Tarts, a plush butter encrusted pastry (for the sweet tooth lover), promptly dissipated. A personal favourite was the Highland whisky cake, laced with Glenfiddich single malt whiskythis moist and tasty cake, full of sultanas and cherries did not disappoint. To be honest, it has just the right amount of everything, and a more than suitable pairing for coffee or tea. But, just in case you're not a fan of traditional fruit cake, make note … you've likely never tried this one. It is highly recommended.

Needless to say, this was a perfect time for us to recharge on a sunny afternoon, before heading onward with travelling for the day.
