Essentials // Health & Beauty Edit

Monday

This time, I am bringing you some unique dōTERRA essential oils that can help with ailments, your lifestyle and overall health.

Ginger: An amazing root that I use pretty much every day. The oil is a great concentrated oil and works well in a cup of hot water with freshly squeezed lemon. You can really taste the root as if you sliced fresh ginger. This is also a healing oil: if you want a good massage or if you're in pain, try applying ginger to the area for soothing. I get motion sickness occasionally and usually make sachets of ginger peel, anise seed, and fennel tea. This ginger oil helps immediately for upset stomachs and alleviating nausea.

In partnership with our friends at

Cypress: Benefits: improves oily skin, alleviated aches and pain. Use this after a workout to energise or invigorate your legs. I found Cypress to work well with body pains (legs, feet, and back) as well. This has a woody and herbaceous but clean scent that is slightly piney.

Cardamom*This oil is proudly part of a collaborative sourcing initiative in Guatemala. Benefits: Not only used for cooking and baking, but cardamom also fights bad breath, may protect again diseases and have anti-inflammatory effects. Cardamom can also help with infections, breathing, and respiratory issues. I like to use it in my diffuser, and I love using green cardamom in my tea with cinnamon and coconut milk. It makes a great addition to hot chai.

Blue Tansy: This is an African yellow-flowered Mediterranean plant that comes from Northern Morocco. I had not used this oil alone before but I have to say, I really love it! It’s surprisingly versatile. I liked to use this oil blended with either tea tree oil or a toning oil such as ylang-ylang or vetiverIt can be used as a soothing massage oil, a mood booster, and oil to help diminish blemishes. A note of caution: this oil is actually blue in colour; avoid staining fabrics or clothing.

Quick DIY: Beauty Paste (moisturising oil) In a small bowl, mix together 3-4 tablespoons coconut oil + 3 drops blue tansy + 3 drops ylang-ylang + 3 drops geranium oil. Stir well until incorporatedStore in an airtight container or in the refrigerator. Can be used as a spot treatment for dry spots, blemishes, or a hydrating toning oil, etc. Feel free to add a knob of raw shea butter, that is what I do for extra hydration.

Above oils:  method used: steam distillation.

Family Friendly: dōTERRA On Guard hand soap blends immunity-boosting and germ-fighting elements with essential oil-based soap; a proprietary blend, including wild orange peel, rosemary, clove, cinnamon bark, and cinnamon leaf, eucalyptus. Essential oils, fragrant of spice and citrus. It's delicate enough for sensitive skin and cleans without drying out the skin.

Relax + Workout
One new collection that I tried was the Yoga Collection, a beautifully boxed trio of essential oil blends that will aid you in your yoga flows. To me, this trio couldn’t suit my lifestyle better. It was a breath of fresh air—the oils are meant to wake, calm, and keep you focussed as a yogi during your practice. I will have an upcoming post about more on how I strengthen my immune system and core whilst travelling.

Arise: When you’re tired, not feeling like exercising or pouting about, then use this one first. I added a few drops in my diffuser to start my workout. The citrusy fragrant scents come through instantly from lemon peel and grapefruit and are rounded out with floral notes of Osmanthus with subtle hints of Siberian Fir and coconut oil as the carrier oilIt literally gave me energy and woke me up.

Align: This is a pretty oil. It’s a charming, yet unique blend of bergamot, geranium, coriander, basil leaf, peppermint, marjoram oil, and flower oils of rose and jasmine. The help of peppermint oil calms you immediately as the other blends help to stabilise your body’s poses and help with mindfulness and the connection to oneself in a flow. This is recommended for Warrior II, Triangle, and Gate pose. Since all oils in this trio have a base of coconut oil, you can use drops of the oil on areas of your body without another carrier oil, wherever you need the most support. I used this one topically, rather than in my diffuser.

Anchor: Distinctive aromas of cinnamon bark, patchouli, black pepper, frankincense, lavender, and cedarwood oil amongst others. I wasn't so keen on the Anchor as far as making a huge difference in my yoga performance, but it simply smells amazingThe Anchor is best more for meditative poses, seated twists, and Bhu Mudra (one hand on heart, one toward earth) pose. This oil can pleasantly fill the room.

Overall though, I like all of these oils, but I really loved the Align, and Arise. You can also use drops of any of the oils on lava rocks or natural dolomite for room diffusing.

I hope this post helped you and sparked an interest in learning more about essential oils and their benefits for everyday living.

Remember, essential oils are highly concentrated, and not to be internally, especially in high doses without proper research and an experienced herbalist, or consent from a physician. It is important to understand alternative methods and holistic healing elements are not for everyone but are natural ways of promoting health and wellness.

Are you incorporating more essential oils in your life now?
