Eco-Style: Animal Kingdom

As summertime comes to a close, and fall slowly unfolds, I wanted to start showcasing inspiring autumn eco-styles from the Gudrun Sjödén collection. This season the line takes influence from the depths of Africa, and in a big way.

Mother Nature will always provide bountiful ways of inspiration, especially if you allow yourself to soak up your daily surroundings. Sometimes, you can be moved by the undeniable beauty in nature, even in the smallest capacity. I know that I am constantly influenced by nature, especially when it comes to my artwork and fashion in general.
Gudrun Sjoden Elephant top
I am wearing this elephant top in support of Ivory for Elephants (IFE). The team at Gudrun Sjödén also supports the preservation of elephants in Africa, and will contribute $8 from each “Elefant” top sold from the fall collection.

The African elephant is an extraordinary creature, and they are highly intelligent animals. Elephants have an incredible memory. Their large and complex brain allows them to have social and ecological awareness. Unfortunately, an elephant is slain about every fifteen minutes, and because of the global demand for ivory rising, 35,000 of the 300,000 elephants in existence in 2013 were killed for it. Therefore, in about ten years if the trade with ivory persists, then elephants will sadly become extinct.

For more information on IFE, visit www.ivoryfelephants.org.

That sounds like an amazing line (love the print) and in support of an amazing cause. Elephants are so majestic, it's painful to think of them suffering or, worse still, a world without them.

OMG you kidding, I did not know they were in danger of becoming extinct. They really need to crack down on that and ban Ivory. I guess it depends where the demand is the highest, but if it is the states or the west then there is no excuse people should stop buying it. Great brand and post.

  22. It's so true, they will become extinct if more isn't done to keep them safe. I find it terrible how many get killed and all for their tusks, they just leave the animal to die. It's heart-breaking. This is a great way to champion for them. Love how you styled the look together. Perfect for the season change. I hope you are well doll xx

  24. I am so sadden by what you've just shared about the elephants in Africa! I ignorantly had no idea it was that bad, how can people live with themselves?! Elephants are truly magnificent animals and I hope that something can be done to stop this Victorian way of thinking. It's so cruel but I thank you for sharing this and enlightening those who aren't informed about this travesty.

I must not forget to say how much I love your look, very autumnal. I really love your boots :)

    Take care

  25. I agree that mother nature is a beautiful source of inspiration. I'm really inspired by microscopic organisms and happenings and use similar forms to articulate my artwork in a really organic, illustrative sort of way. So it's nice to hear that someone is sort of doing the same thing with their outfits!

Eeep, I had no idea that elephants were endangered! Great and informative post.

  26. Oh, this is such a charity! You are a person with a good heart! Elephants are noble animals, I don't want them to extinct. Thank you for sharing this!

This reminds me of an article I read maybe a month ago or so about an elephant that was rescued from these terrible people that were abusing it for YEARS. When he/she became free it cried. I thought it was so sweet and just heartbreaking. Animals do feel and I don't understand how people don't see that. Anyhow, I think this printed elephant top is just too adorable!

  41. It's hard to imagine people even want ivory, knowing the cost that comes attached to it. It is terribly sad to think these beautiful elephants are killed so needlessly.

You wear the tee well, and it's still hard for me to want to move into a more autumnal color pallet!

So nice that you've showed your support for the elephans- they're one of the most magnificent creatures on this Earth- certainly one of most intelligent and it would be beyond sad if we were to lost them- I cannot even imagine it!

Lately I've been thinking of painting an elephant- my husband also loves them so I think that is something he would also liked.

The outfit is wonderful- lovely inspiration for the Fall! here it was hot hot summer until a few days but since it has started raining one can feel the Fall in the air....
